This policy explains what personal information Pumzika collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies to pumzikastays.com and to messages and emails from us.
Who is responsible
Pumzika Stays runs Pumzika Stays and is responsible for your information. Our details are at the end of this page.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, password (stored in a scrambled form we cannot read), and a phone number and photo if you add them.
- Bookings: the stay, dates, number of guests, prices and messages between guests and hosts.
- Payments: the amount, method and status of each payment. Card numbers and mobile money PINs are handled by our payment providers and never stored by us.
- Hosts: listing details, photos, the address of the place, and payout details.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser and device, and pages visited, kept in our server logs for security.
Why we use it
- To run your account and your bookings, take payments, pay hosts and send refunds.
- To send emails about your bookings and account, and answer your messages.
- To keep Pumzika safe: to stop fraud, fake accounts and payments outside Pumzika.
- To keep the records the law requires, for example for tax.
We only send marketing emails if you agree to them, and you can stop them at any time.
Who we share it with
- Your host or guest: when you book, the host sees your name, the dates, the number of guests and your messages. Guests see the host’s name and, once the booking is confirmed, the address of the place.
- Service providers who help us run Pumzika: payment providers, email delivery and web hosting. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies that the website needs to work: to keep you logged in, to remember the currency you chose, and to protect forms against misuse. We do not use advertising cookies. If we add analytics or advertising cookies in future, we will ask for your consent first.
Where it is kept and for how long
Your information is stored on secure servers, some of which may be outside Tanzania. We protect it the same way wherever it is stored. We keep your account information while your account is open. Booking and payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, then deleted.
Your rights
Under Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop us using it for a purpose. Contact us from the email address on your account and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission.
Children
Pumzika is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
We will update this policy when we change how we use information, and show the date of the latest change at the top of this page.
